Ted Whiteside

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Age 28, Edward Whiteside is a driver from Barrow-in-Furness. He started riding in trials and scrambles and turned to road racing in 1957. He has taken part in events at Aintree and in the Cookstown "100" and I.0.M. Southern "100" etc. In the 1957 350 c.c. Newcomers' race he finished fifth on an A.J.S. at 81.38 m.p.h., but in the Junior Manx of the following day he retired on the last lap when lying thirteenth -- and, similarly mounted, was more unlucky still in the 1958 Junior Manx - he had trouble in the very first lap. In 1959 his luck was out again for, on a Norton this time, he retired at the pits at the end of the second lap. Last year he was ninth in the Carrowdore "100".

Ted's Junior machine is a new 7R model, whilst his Lightweight Ariel is a much-moded Leader. He is entered for both races by Eddie Crooks, of Barrow-in-Furness. (TT Special, 16 June 1961, p.19.)

Age 25, Edward Whiteside is a driver from Barrow-in-Furness. He started riding in trials and scrambles and turned to road racing last year. He has taken part in events at Aintree and in the Cookstown 100 and Isle of Man Southern 100. In last year's 350 cc. Newcomer's race he finished fifth at 81.38 mph but in the Junior Manx of the following day he retired on the last lap when lying thirteenth. Hobby: "Gardening - but under protest."
(TT Special, 11 September 1958, p.27.)
