David Whitworth

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Age - "still a trade secret" - but anyway, he was riding in the T.T. before the war and finished fifth in the Junior and twelth in the Senior of 1939. His best T.T. position to date was second on a Velocette in the 1947 Junior, at 78.68 m.p.h. Last year he was entered for both Junior and Senior races, but was unable to ride owing to a crash in a Continental race earlier in the season. The same thing happened to him this year - he crashed in the Circuit de Pau on April 17th and broke a small bone in his leg. He was in plaster until a few days before Practising started and on arrival in the Isle of Man was examined by the doctor and allowed to ride for a week "on trial". After this he was pronounced fit to ride and competed to-day on his Velocette. He is not, however, riding the big Guzzi on Friday.
Hobbies: Ice skating, fly-fishing, work... and more work!
