Stan Dibben

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Mount: Senior—Norton.

Age 29, Stan Dibben is a mechanic, and comes from Ropley, Hants. In addition to riding solo in Continental road races, he is also an outstanding passenger, and was partner to Eric Oliver when he won the World Sidecar Championship last year. This year he acts as “ballast” for Cyril Smith.

Stan rode a 350cc Norton in the 1952 Manx, but this is his first attempt at the T.T. In events earlier this year he was placed fourth at Seraing, eighth at Mettet and seventh at Floreffe (all in the 500 c.c. class). His machine is a standard 1953-type Manx Norton.

He plays the trumpet in a dance band, and has, in fact made several records — “the only type of record I’m ever likely to make” he quips.

Entrant: Cabby Cooper of Eleanor Motors.
(TT Special, 16 June 1954, p.10.)

Stan Dibben died on 22 October 2020.
