Biography: Born in London in 1840, he was by trade a landscape painter and travelled across much of Sussex and Hampshire. He had great success during his career, gaining recognition in his exhibitions at the Royal Academy and at Suffolk Street. His works indulge in the tradition of the pastoral picture, but are painted in the manner of his contemporary Pre-Raphaelites and focus on details within the scenes.
