Biography: He worked in Greenock, Renfrewshire and lived at 127 Paisley-Road, Glasgow between 1846 and 1887. He was often commissioned by ship owners to paint them and appears to have been fairly successful, using oil paints to capture details on the vessels as well as the light and colours of the sea. An engraving was made from his painting of 'The Lizzie' and featured in The Illustrated London News.
