Biography: Brigadier-General Sir William Fry was the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man 1919-1926. He was Colonel of the 14th West Yorkshire Regiment from 1914-1934. An extract from the Ramsey Courier, 23 March 1934, p. 5 states, "Sir William Fry, K.C.V.O., C.B., following a distinguished career in the army was appointed Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man on 1st April 1919, succeeding the late Lord Raglan in that Office. He was the first Governor to be appointed following the reform of the Manx Constitution, and his appointment was for six years. He proved an able administrator, and during the family's residence in the Isle of Man they were regarded with great affection by the Manx people. Sir William married a sister of the late Mr. J. Leigh Goldie-Taubman, J.P., and of Major Goldie-Taubman, of the Nunnery. He was 75 years of age."
