Biography: Died at Vet River, South Africa from enteric fever whilst serving in the S.A.C. for King and Country on February 23rd 1902, aged 22 years. Extract from Isle of Man Times, 1 Mar 1902, p. 21 reads: “News arrived in Ramsey on Thursday of the death of Trooper Towerson Wylde, better known as ‘Tom’ Wylde. Deceased was the son of Mr T. P. Wylde, mineral water manufacturer, of Ramsey, and who resides at Glentrammon, Lezayre. He served his apprenticeship as a plumber with Messrs Lowey and Sons, Parliament Street, and was about 22 years old. He joined the South African Constabulary in February , 1901, and had been in several engagements. He was taken ill with dysentery at the Vet River, and died on 23rd February. Deceased was a well-known member of the Ramsey Football Club, and played in several matches previous to proceeding to South Africa. Great sympathy is expressed on all hands with his parents at the loss sustained by them in so promising a career being cut short so soon.”
