Biography: Military Medal for gallant and distinguished service in North Africa had been awarded to L-Cpl. Douglas Joseph Edward Grant, Reconnaissance Corps, son of Mr and Mrs A. J. Grant of ‘Fyzabad’, Malew Road, Castletown. He was reported to have been killed on 5th October whilst on reconnaissance patrol. He was 24 years old, son of the physical training master at King William’s College, where he was educated. He joined up early in the war and was in the Metropolitan Police. He was known to have taken part in the capture of Sicily.
