Biography: Born in 1943, he spent his childhood living on Ham and Egg Terrace in Laxey. He now resides in Douglas with his partner, Shelia.

He has spent much of his life aboard ships, his first maritime job being with the Isle of Man Steam Packet in 1958 when he was just fifteen years old. In 1959, he joined the Merchant Navy and worked at sea for another twenty years. The influence of his career at sea can be found in much of his works and in 2003 he was invited by the San Diego Maritime Museum to hold an exhibition of his art aboard the Star of India, which has since been moored in their port. He describes his main artistic influences as Jack Spurling and John Nicolson.

I have a large painting of a small ship with the castle behind it. Peel, Isle of Man. Also having just moved from San Diego a few years ago, one of the members from the San Diego Manx Society gave me something that was rolled up in a tube. He said, put this somewhere safe. And then someday and years gone by. You'll find it once again. That was 2007 and I found it today May 27, 2021. Since I had no idea what it was I took it out to look at what it was.
