Brown's Guide to the Isle of Man of 1900 says, "From Broadway northward to Falcon Cliff, we have the Central Promenade, opened in 1896, ...this magnificent promenade is bordered on the land side by a succession of fine terraces of large and popular boarding houses: Clarence Terrace, The Esplanade, Derby Terrace and Castle Terrace, all modernised and made available for the visiting season."
