Cuff-links made in internment camp from bog oak
Date made: 1942
Description: Pair of 'bog-oak' cuff-links made with timber from the Bersu excavation of the Ballacagen Celtic Roundhouse. Small wooden blocks inlaid with a single strip of metal on one block and Masonic symbol on the other. Cuff-links presented in a handmade box (similar to a pianola roll box) with a handtyped presentation scroll: "P Camp Isle of Man has the honour to present 1 pair of cufflinks made by a fellow internee out of a piece of bog oak which was part of a pillar belonging to a Celtic Manor House probably the habitation of a Celtic Chief, about 300 AD. Excavated in 1942 AD at Ballyceiggan [sic] near Castletown., Isle of Man, by the fellow internee Dr G. Bersu, formerly P Camp, at present Y Camp, to Lt C. Stadan with thanks and appreciation Autumn 1943 AD H.L. Bender."
Donor's husband Lt C. Standen was Hutchinson Camp finance officer.
