Woollen Wholecloth Quilt

Date made: late 19th century-early 20th century

Description: A reversible woollen wholecloth quilt with on one side a brown and white check fabric and on the other the same fabric over-dyed red. The woollen fabric is made from brown Loghtan wool and unbleached white wool woven in a 12 cm check pattern with an average of 20 threads per 2 cm. The brown and white fabric side contains patches of the red over-dyed fabric.

The quilt does not contain any filling and is not quilted. The quilt is attached along all its sides by one line of machine stitch in black cotton thread, except for one short line of white machine stitch.
