The Witches Mill tourist souvenir handkerchief

Date made: 1950s-1960s

Description: A Witches Mill tourist souvenir handkerchief with coloured printed design in one corner of a naked female witch on a broomstick flying over the Witches Mill buildings (Castletown) by light of a full moon.

The handkerchief appears to be 'home-made' and handmade from pale cream nylon or synthetic fabric used to make petticoats or slips and edged with green & cream nylon or synthetic lace trim. The handkerchief is machine and hand sewn. The colour design is printed using the same design printed on the cover of the Witches Mill guidebook (possibly printed by same printers using same printing plates).

The souvenir handkerchief came from the donor's aunt and is thought to have been purchased by the donor's aunt on a visit to the Island (and to the Witches Mill) in about 1968-9.
