Gold arm-ring

Date made: Viking: 800-1265, AD 950

Description: This remarkably-preserved complete arm-ring is made from three plaited rods of gold, with both ends merging into a flat lozenge-shaped band that has been decorated on the front with a repeated stamped design of three dots. It is likely to have a gold content of over 90%. It is a rare find from outside Scandinavia and it demonstrates that the Isle of Man was home to some particularly wealthy people during the Viking Age - especially as it was found with a huge silver brooch and parts of a silver armband.
