Woollen Wholecloth Quilt

Date made: mid 19th century

Maker: Member of Quirk Family

Description: A red and blue woollen 'curleadyn' or wholecloth quilt. The top of the quilt is made with two pieces of red and blue hand-woven 'goose-eye' fabric sewn together.

The quilt is backed with an unbleached woollen blanket and is hand-quilted in a zig-zag pattern with a dark pink woollen thread. The quilt does not contain any filling.

The fabric is woven from homespun wool produced by the donor's maternal great grandparents, the Quirks of Surby. The mother of the donor, Miss Gale, was a Kinvig and her mother a Quirk.
