The 1921 Celtic Congress was held in the Isle of Man. Founded in 1917, the Celtic Congress was held in a different location each year. in 1921 delegates undertook a historical tour of the Island, including Castle Rushen and Cregneash and attended a church service in Manx Gaelic. Papers presented at the Congress included: 'The Isle of Man and its Story' (Quine); 'Some traits common to the Celts in the Middle Ages' (Douglas Hyde); 'Characteristics of Manx Folk-Song' (Quayle); 'Welsh and Manx Folk-Songs' (J. Herbert Lewis); 'Recent Celtic Activities in Cornwall' (Jenner); and 'Modern Celtic Studies in Paris'.

Yn Cheshaght Ghailckagh was founded in 1899 in the Isle of Man to promote the Manx language. 'When a nation loses its language, it loses its most precious heritage; it loses its patriotism; it loses its nationality, and becomes, as it were, a nation dwelling in a strange land.' - William Quayle at the first meeting of Yn Cheshaght Ghailckagh, March 1899.
