Dreams

Date made: 1905

Artist: Lightowler, Frank

Description: The portrait ‘Dreams’ was exhibited on the Isle of Man in 1935 before being donated to the Manx Museum. The sitter is unknown. Frank Lightowler (1882- 1959) was a professional artist who had a studio at Ballaquane Mansion in Peel with his wife, Nellie, also an artist. His work was widely exhibited in London, Liverpool and Manchester and it was said he was especially fond of portrait painting. Despite his love of painting, he was principally a sculptor and we have a number of his portrait busts in the art collection. They include sculptures of some of the key people connected with the birth of the Manx Museum, including Philip Kermode, Josephine 'Cushag' Kermode and William Cubbon.
