Douglas Bay from Deemster Heywood's

Date made: 11.09.1854

Description: “At 9am we were running into Douglas Harbour. A boat now came alongside of us to enquire what views we brought; we were the first to communicate the important Intelligence of the abdication of the Throne of France by the Emperor Napoleon. One of the men came on board and presenting a card introduced himself as the Waiter of the British Hotel at which place he promised we should find comfortable accommodation. ” (Samuel Dukinfield Swarbreck, Tour through the Isle of Man by Captain William Latham, July 1815, M 07398)
