Date made: 1940-1941
Description: A handcarved wooden chess piece made by Hans Schwarz, an internee in Peveril Internment Camp, Peel, in 1940-41. The chess piece is of the king and is a male figure with a beard, his head cocked to one side and a crown on his head. Each chess piece appears to have been modelled on a specific individual, possibly a fellow internee or an officer, guard.
