Cotton Framed Medallion Quilt
Date made: 19th century
Description: Turkey red and white cotton patchwork quilt with a central panel made from a single red hexagon bordered by six white hexagons against a red background. Surrounding this central panel are small and large diamonds; hexagons; rectangles; and red and white squares. The quilt is backed with a white cotton sheet made of two pieces of fabric sewn together. A second sheet used as filling may be inside.
The quilt is hand-quilted with white cotton thread in a zig-zag pattern. The edges are bound with a thin strip of red cotton fabric.
This quilt is thought to have been made by the great grandmother of Mrs Eastwood, Laxey, who donated the quilt to the Manx Museum.
