Commercial Quilt
Date made: 1920-1939
Description: A reversible diamond patterned cotton patchwork quilt. The quilt is black and red with a central floral diamond set in a black square with a wide floral border on one side, and a central black diamond set in floral square surrounded by a wide black border on the other. It has been patched and repaired on the edges with black, red and grey synthetic fabrics.
The quilt is machine-quilted in a tight zig-zag or wave pattern with pale yellow cotton thread. It has two rows of straight stitching around the edges as binding and is filled with wadding. The quilt has a green and yellow embroidered trade mark on the back bearing the words 'The Comfy' Regd. Washable Hygienic'.
This quilt is from the home of Miss Mona Woodworth of Port St Mary. It is thought to have been made commercially in Ulster (possibly Belfast) in the 1920s-30s.
