Woollen 'Tailor's' Quilt

Date made: late 19th century

Maker: Member of Teare Family

Description: A quilt made from rectangular tailor's samples of woollen suit and tweed fabrics. The predominant colours are dark blue, green, black, brown and grey.

It is backed with a central panel of striped grey, blue and pink woollen fabric with a border of mid-brown woollen fabric on each side. The quilt is roughly hand-quilted in straight lines using grey cotton thread. The edges are bound with grey cotton thread using both blanket and running stitch. It does not contain any filling.
