Coatee worn by Major Caesar Bacon
Date made: early 19th century
Description: Blue coat with Tassel tail and red collar with four silver stripes. Silver buttons of 26th Light Dragoons on the red cuffs. Cherry red plastron or front panel, with plain buttons, also silver epaulettes. Worn by Major Caesar Bacon, circa 1816. The 23rd Light Dragoons, with which Bacon served, were created in 1803 by re-numbering the 26th Light Dragoons. This suggests that the coatee, though of a style introduced around 1812, may actually be older and was modified.
