Arrival of Governor Pigott

Date made: mid 19th century

Artist: unknown artist

Description: Framed & glazed oil on board painting showing Mona's Queen I & King Orry I (paddle steamers) coming in to Douglas harbour, viewed from Douglas Head (approx.) The occasion is the arrival of Governor Pigott. Painting is unsigned but attributed to the Liverpool school of maritime artists.

Pigott was Lieutenant Governor from 1860 to 1863, which suggests that the painting dates from the former.
