Cotton Framed Medallion Quilt

Date made: 19th century

Maker: Member of Mylchreest Family

Description: A cotton framed medallion quilt with a geometric framed design surrounding a central panel of triangles arranged within a square. The border of the central square also contains a series of intricate patchwork stars. The predominant colours of the quilt are pink, beige, brown and blue in a variety of patterns, including plain, floral and checked. The cotton fabrics appear to be dress fabrics.

The patchwork quilt is backed with a coarser cotton or linen fabric with a panel of fine white cotton at one end. The quilt is hand-quilted in a zig-zag pattern with white cotton thread. The quilt does not contain any filling.

The quilt is from the donor's grandparents, the Mylchreests of Ballaharra, German and Ballamenagh, Lonan.
