Woollen Framed Medallion Quilt
Date made: mid-late 19th century
Description: Woollen patchwork quilt.
The quilt has a framed medallion patchwork top made of a large central block of two blue and two red squares bordered by striped and plain fabrics. The patchwork consists of different coloured 'Union' (mixed fibre) material made in the Isle of Man. The quilt is backed with a cream coloured woollen blanket made of two pieces of cloth sewn together.
The woollen quilt is hand-quilted with red thread in a zig-zag pattern. It does not appear to contain any filling.
'C.K.' has been sewn in cross stitch on the reverse of the quilt. This refers to Charles Kaighin of Ballakaighen (d.1880-90), grandfather of Mrs Margaret Ann Kaighin, Ballacottier Farm, Onchan who donated the quilt to the Manx Museum.
