Ship's bell, 'S.S. Empress Queen'

Description: This is the ship's bell of the 'S.S. Empress Queen', which was sunk at Bembridge, Isle of Wight, in 1916. The bell stands circa 16 inches high, the circumference at the base is 4 foot 2 inches and at the top 23 inches. On the side is the name 'EMPRESS QUEEN'. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company paddle steamer Empress Queen had been chartered by the British Government as a troop transport, during the First World War. It was whilst on these duties that she ran aground and was lost. The bell is made from copper alloy.
