Crazy Patchwork Quilt

Description: This multicoloured crazy patchwork quilt is made of a variety of fabrics including silk, satin, velvet and damask, with pieces of embroidered, checked, striped and plain fabric. The colours are black and green with highlights of pink, red, blue, purple, yellow and brown. The crazy patchwork is over-stitched with multicoloured embroidery threads in very fine hand-stitching. The quilt is bordered with a green satin frill, cornered with pink satin and decorated with a floral design in yellow and green embroidery silks.

The reverse of the quilt is backed in a pink and green floral fabric in two pieces and a pink frill. The quilt is bound on both sides with pink, brown and white cord. It is a heavy weight quilt with wadding.

This quilt was made around 1890-5 by Mrs Amelia Jane Kinrade (1876-1958) who was the daughter of Thomas Kelly, baker and grocer of Peel.
