Description: In the four corners of this framed declaration are the names of King Edward VII, Queen Alexandra, Rt. Hon. Joseph Chamberlain and Lord Milner, with the inscription reading as follows: "Anglo-Boer War / 1899-1902 / On Sunday morning June 1st 1902, / His Excellency the Honourable Sir / Walter Frances Hely-Hutchinson / G.C.M.G. Governor and Commander-in-Chief / of His Majesty's Colony of the Cape of / Good Hope, received the following message / by cable from the Right Honourable / Joseph Chamberlain, His Majesty's Secre- / tary of State for the Colonies: '1st June 1902 - The representatives / of the Boer forces still in the field have / accepted terms of surrender offered by His / Majesty's government.' "
