Douglas

Description: Douglas sits on the east coast of the Isle of Man (NGR 23780 47650).
Backwell's hand-book for visitors to the Isle of Man of 1864 says, “From the more frequent communication between this town and England, the greater number of the Summer visitors to the Island first arrive at Douglas, which is the largest, most populous, and in every point of view, the principal town in the Island. The approach by sea presents a very imposing scene, and it is generally admitted that scarcely does any place in the United Kingdom offer to the eye, in so little space, so much of beauty as the Bay of Douglas, with its enclosing land, when looked at from a short sea distance."
