The memorial consists of a marble plaque on a stone plinth.

It was unveiled on 11 November 2010 by Miss Dhoona Leece and dedicated by Canon Malcolm Convery. The memorial was sponsored by the Parish Board and cost £1,000.

It was sculpted by Dennis Quaye, stonemason.

It was decided to erect a central memorial in St John's village as it was felt that the men from German parish were not who fell in both wars were not recorded elsewhere in the area. It is placed beside a busy road and footpath so that it can be easily observed by persons passing by.
