Queen's Promenade (Douglas)

Description: Queen's Promenade is the northernmost of four promenades that run along the seafront of Douglas on the east coast of the Isle of Man (NGR 23840 47713). The third of the Douglas promenades opened in 1890, but was completed in 1897 to coincide with Queen Victoria's jubilee celebrations. Queen's Promenade is at the northern end of the bay and when it was first constructed was promoted as being peaceful and quiet in comparison to the busy and congested Loch and Harris Promenades at the southern end of the bay. However, the bustle of "the season" soon reached the Queen's Promenade as it provided access to some of the key entertainments along the sea front, including The Palace, The Falcon Cliff and The Derby Castle.
