Loch Promenade (Douglas)

Description: Loch Promenade is the southernmost of four promenades that run along the seafront of Douglas on the east coast of the Isle of Man (NGR 23827 47573). Brown's Guide to the Isle of Man of 1900 says, "...and stretched before us, in a long prospect of huge hotels and palatial boarding houses, is the Loch Promenade, backed in the distance by the dark, wooded cliffs of the North Bay, and with the sunlit sea beating gently against its massive sea wall. A finer outlook than that from this point, it would be impossible to find:- The noble facade of the terraces lining the inner side of the Promenade, the picturesque beauty of the background, the bright summer sea glinting and dancing in the brilliant sunlight, the roadway and the "troittoirs" crowded with carriages and cars of every description and with countless groups of gaily dressed holiday makers, make up a scene of natural and acquired beauty to be found in few other places in the world."
