South Quay (Douglas)

Description: South Quay in Douglas is on the east coast of the Isle of Man (NGR 23780 47515). Brown's Popular Guide to the Isle of Man of 1876 says, "...we go along the South Quay, and after passing a few lodging houses reach the iron foundry of Mr R Gelling, and shortly afterwards the works of the Douglas Gas Company...A little further on are a sailcloth manufactory and other works on the road side...Passing on we arrive at Fort Anne jetty, a structure erected many years ago for the protection of the harbour."
