Grand Theatre (Douglas)

Description: The Grand Theatre, now demolished, stood in central Douglas on the east side of the Isle of Man (NGR 23806 47553). Brown's Guide to the Isle of Man of 1900 says, "Starting once more from the Jubilee Clock, we pass up Victoria Street...On the right is the great block of buildings belonging to the Villiers Hotel, the largest hotel in the Island. Opposite to it is the equally extensive block containing the Grand Hotel, the Victoria Baths, and the Grand Theatre. Neither of these vast piles can boast of architectural beauty, and their main interest lies in their immense size, and the complexity of their arrangements." (p.90)
