Snaefell
Description: “On towards Laxey, by the new road, Snaefell rears its lofty head, and invites the traveller to a view of nature majestic in beauty and extent. Considered the centre of the British Isles, from it, on a clear day, may be obtained a bird’s eye view of an area of not less than three thousand square miles, comprising within its limits the mountains of Cumberland and Lancashire, in England – those of Carnarvon, in Wales – those of Arklow and Morne, in Ireland – and those of Galway and Dumfrieshire, in Scotland; - all towering in majestic grandeur, all associated with historical recollections; while the hills and glens of Mona, with her woods, waters, hamlets, villages, and towns, are spread out like a panorama of matchless splendour.” (Glover's illustrated guide and visitors' companion through the Isle of Man, 1875, p.115.)
