Image taken from photograph album 'The Isle of Man Album of Views'. It shows the Peveril Hotel, which was built on the site of Mr McGhie's baths opposite the end of the newly constructed Victoria Pier. It was a prime site for the company of investors. The architect was John Robinson who used his best classical style for the building he designed at the same time as Onchan School. A few years later a single storey extension was added to the right hand side which shows in this photograph but it is hard to distinguish against the Villiers Hotel seen behind. In the 1880s this was replaced by a large extension which was a storey higher than the main building.
