HOME – a concept explored by Manx artists from the Creative Network

Work made by Artists from the Isle of Man’s Creative Network is now showcased as part of HOME, an exhibition at the Manx Museum, which opened on Saturday 18 November 2023.

Fading Light by Jeremy Paul. Acrylic on board.

More than eighty members of the Creative Network were set the challenge to create a piece of work about what ‘home’ means to them.  Sixty-five pieces of work were selected for display in the exhibition ranging from drawings to paintings, ceramics, mixed media, photography and sculpture. The works feature in an accompanying catalogue.

‘Home’ by Jo Lewy. Stoneware ceramic made with oxides, underglazes, glazes and 22k gold with appendages of glass, silver and photo decals.

Each piece appearing in the exhibition was selected by an expert panel for display including Manx artist and Educator Ian Coulson, internationally renowned sculptor Professor Michael Sandle RA and Katie King, Manx National Heritage Curator for Art and Social History.

Carola Rush from the Creative Network said:

“The Creative Network is a collective of Manx artists, run by artists for artists, with the aim of promoting the work of its members and to showcase the rich diversity of artwork produced within our Manx creative community. We are extremely grateful to Manx National Heritage for working with us to provide this wonderful opportunity for our members to take part in a major group exhibition, where all artists are responding to a particular theme. It is always fascinating to see the breadth of individual responses shown alongside each other. We are so grateful to the selectors who took on the difficult task of deciding which works would make up the final exhibition and to all artists who submitted work. We were also able to produce a catalogue of the exhibition thanks to the support of the IOM Arts Council, so the artist’s thoughts and artworks will remain together as a published body of work beyond the exhibition.”

Hut on the Beach by Laura Espinosa Moon. Acrylic on canvas.

HOME is open at the Manx Museum from Saturday 18 November to 14 April 2024 from 9.30am to 4.30pm daily.  Admission is free, with donations welcome.

Some artworks from the exhibition are now available to purchase online.
